ONE HAND CLAP (based on ONE FINGER SNAP)

“ONE FINGER SNAP” is an exciting, fast-paced, post-bop tune written by the great Herbie Hancock for his 1964 release, "Empyrean Isles," which also featured one of the most popular tunes in modern jazz, "Cantaloupe Island." "One Finger Snap" is a challenging tune to play in that its 16-bar form has an added 4-bar "intro" that's integrated into the form for soloing. It also uses elements of three well known jazz harmonic progressions: bebop, minor ii/V, and modal jazz. Normally played with a fast swing groove, our original contrafact by pianist Darrell Grant is a great homage to Herbie Hancock and is among the most difficult in The Reality Book, presenting a great challenge for musicians of any level.
