Composed in 1931 by Johnny Green and Edward Heyman, its well known chord progression and A-B1-A-B2 form has been the basis for scores of jazz tunes and other well-known songs (including the theme from "Star Trek!”). Bing Crosby's version was his first #1 hit in 1931, and Charlie Parker later recorded the most recognizable jazz version in 1947. Normally played as a medium swinger, the tune offers great flexibility, sounding great slower or faster or even with a straight-eighth groove. Darrell Grant's original contrafact takes it even further, presenting it with an Afro-Cuban 12/8 feel - an important one to master as it can add variety to a set or as a rhythmic device to create tension within other feels.
