MRS J (based on HAVE YOU MET MISS JONES)

Another classic written by Rodgers and Hart in the late '30s, "Have You Met Miss Jones" has been covered by singers and instrumentalists on hundreds of recordings since the '50s. Often a comfortable medium tempo, it can also be swung hard with blues inflections, or as in McCoy Tyner's rendition, played fast! It has an elegant, singing melody and the bridge, with its movement through keys by major thirds, suggests it could have been some inspiration for Coltrane’s "Giant Steps."
